Genealogical research – $60/hr, 5-hour minimum
Here’s how it works:
When you contact me about doing some research, I’ll ask you to fill out a form with information about the ancestor(s) you’re trying to trace. Based on the information you provide, I’ll do a quick check to see if I think I’ll be able to help you. If it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to find anything, I’ll let you know that so you don’t waste your money. If I do think I can help you, then I’ll ask you to start by paying me for the 2-hour minimum. After I’ve done that research, I’ll give you a report on my findings, and you can decide whether or not you want to authorize more hours of research in order to find more information. My report will include information about whether I see any leads to follow for additional research. There’s no guarantee that ancestors will be found in tough cases, but you will receive a report of which resources I checked and whatever information I was able to gather.
Search of local archives
Physical records searches of archives within the Southeast Pennsylvania and New Jersey area may be possible. Travel costs will apply on top of regular research rates if local travel is required.
Report of results
For every block of research hours that you pay me for, you’ll receive a report with the following information:
Record sets searched
Results of search – what information was found and where it was found
Assessment of whether there are promising leads to follow if further research is authorized
